Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly book meme originally featured at Should Be Reading. To participate, just open the book you are currently reading to a random page, and choose two ‘teaser’ sentences from somewhere on that page. (no spoilers!)
Here is another blast from the past so to speak! A little late I know, but it’s not like they expire. Look out for the review for this as well over the weekend 🙂
” ‘You’ve been pretty busy these last few months. I’ve been reading a lot about you. You beat the police by several lengths when you tracked down Zalachenko and identified Niedermann.’
‘Lisbeth Salander was faster.’ ” (431)
“Do you know, Margaret, I really begin quite to like Mr Thornton.”
No answer at first. Then Margaret forced out an icy ‘Do you?’
From Elizabeth Gaskell’s North and South–an Industrial Revolution Pride and Prejudice.
Thanks for the preview, is that your Teaser Tuesday?
Yes, it’s not a long read, just taking a long time to read due to the slow plot pace–a bit like life with moments strung together to create one big story.
I really need to do a reread of this series at some point! I really enjoyed this one, great teaser! 🙂
Thanks so much for the comment, I completely agree with you! I loved this book best from the whole series. I was sad when it ended 😦
It’s such a shame we won’t be reading any new stories; he sure was a very talented writer.
It’s a slow read compared to today’s standards yet I wanted to read the book before rewatching the BBC miniseries with Richard Armitage. I watched it years ago and was very impressed with it. I like Gaskell’s Cranston series much better as a drama than a novel.
Thanks so much for the comment cricketmuse! It sounds like a un read nonetheless, is it really big?
